Description

This T.G. Hawkes Co. cut crystal glass perfume bottle with a globe stopper is from the American Brilliant Period (1(contact info removed).) Measures approximately 6 1/2” tall (including stopper), 4” (without stopper) x 3 3/4” diameter. Heavy in weight. Features a diamond fan cut design coupled with an intricate geometric pattern which were typical of ABP style. Includes a large, multi-faceted globe stopper that complements the base’s design. Globe stoppers were popular during the late 19th century through the Art Nouveau period. Has the first (1902) acid-etched trademark logo (“HAWKES” beneath 2 hawks and a fleur de lis) on both the stopper and the underside of the base. Founded in 1880 in Corning, NY, by Thomas Gibbons Hawkes, T.G. Hawkes Co. became a leading figure in the American cut glass industry. The company gained recognition for winning the Grand Prize at the 1889 Paris Exposition. Hawkes products are regarded for their intricate and high quality work. This perfume bottle and original stopper were purchased by my Great Grandmother (born 1864) at a department store on Fifth Avenue Manhattan. She had it filled at a perfumery in Brooklyn. Overall, good condition. Has a few small chips, some scratches, scuffs and flea bites on the stopper. No breaks or cracks. No residue to the interior. This is a magnificent example of fine details and cutting from the past. Cash only. Pickup in New Hyde Park, Nassau County, Long Island.
