Scale is functional and in very good condition, with all original parts. In 1901, the Toledo Computing Scale and Cash Register Company revolutionized commerce with its new invention, a pendulum scale which automatically computed the price of the items weighed, eliminating the risk of overcharging, and raising the buyer’s trust in the merchant. By 1930, this scale would have been a commonplace item in any general store. Sadly only a few remain, making this beautiful feat of engineering a rare item. This surviving monument to turn of the century American manufacturing uses beveled glass portholes to display the dependability of its mechanism. Its porcelain enamel finish gives it a bright white glossy finish, hiding its formidable cast iron construction.
