Description

Persian Isfahan rug, hand knotted in Iran of 100% natural wool. This rug has full, wool piles and is in excellent condition for its age. Beautiful colors and made with excellent quality. No holes or repairs, plush and soft. There is a bit of wear in one corner. (see picture) Gorgeous design and a near perfect rectangle. This rug was acquired from a Virginia Estate. Clean and ready to be enjoyed. Recent embargoes by the U.S. against Iranian goods should cause the value of these rugs to increase. Isfahan Rugs are known for their high quality. The Iranian city of Isfahan has been one of the centers for production of famous Persian rugs. As Isfahan was becoming Isfahan a center of high-quality rugs, most Isfahan rugs used traditional motifs inspired by the architectural motifs and tiles. Designers were also inspired by the poets of Persia (Rumi, Hafez, Attar), nature, and religious/spiritual intimations that are ingrained in the culture. In 20th century rugs, the colors have become more pastel, utilizing the artistic flair of this "City of Art". Both Classical and contemporary Isfahan rugs are extremely attractive, with a range of traditional designs that are still used, including Shah Abbas, Vase, Tree of Life and Pictorial schemes. But the most popular design is a circular central medallion (Derived from the famous mosque of Shah Lutf Allah in Isfahan) set against an elegantly sculpted field, decorated with intricately purling vine palmette and flor motifs.
