Turn-of-the-century steamer trunk made by Meyering Chicago, IL. This is a vertical steamer trunk, with a slight hump on top, missing leather handle. On the top is a brass engraved name plate “Mrs. Elmer Hodges” which offers an interesting bit of mystery worth investigating. More details of the former owners is known.The trunk opens to reveal a place to hang clothes with an ironing board and place to house your iron (on the left) and the right side has sliding wood drawers that have been covered in material. All drawers slide in and out appropriately and are pretty clean. The left side has wooden hangers and ironing board. The top of the wardrobe side lifts up for easy access to the hanging clothes section. There is also a metal bar to lock the drawers securely in place for travel. Overall the trunk interior is in fair to good condition, considering its age. Please note there is some fading/wear to the material. The exterior shows normal vintage wear consistent with an item that is over 100 years old. The hinges are all in place and work appropriately. The Corbin lock does not work but there are two hook latches that keep the trunk from opening. This is a heavy trunk that weighs approximately 60 pounds before packaging for shipping. Lay on its side and use as a coffee table with hidden storage, as a child's dress up wardrobe or keep as is; it is a perfect way to add a vintage touch to your home/office decor.
