Description

KINTSUGI ART POTTERY ( RANDOM COASTER INCLUDED ) ( This is my own artistic expression based on the Japanese Art of Kintsugi and Wabi-Sabi ) Prehistory of Wabi-Sabi It embraced the uncontrollability of nature and humanity's relation and acceptance of nature. These tenets spread across China influencing the work of poets and artists as they went. By the early 9th-century Chinese art was minimalistic, expressing an atmosphere of anguish and melancholia. Wabi-Sabi. New Word Suggestion. This Japanese term means “a way of living that focuses on finding beauty within the imperfections of life and accepting peacefully the natural cycle of growth and decay.” The History of Kintsugi While Kintsugi's origins aren't entirely clear, historians believe that it dates back to the late 15th century. According to legend, the craft commenced when Japanese shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa sent a cracked chawan—or tea bowl—back to China to undergo repairs. Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as Kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. NOT INTENDED FOR FOOD USE.
