Perfect first pedal bike for those using the contemporary balance bike philosophy (avoiding training wheels) for their child. This 12-inch bike is suitable for the 2-3 year old who's ready to graduate from a pure balance bike. The Gecko is low to the ground, like a balance bike, so kids can feel ease into bringing their feet off the ground to try out the pedals. Importantly, it is also equipped with hand-brakes only (no back-brakes) to make it easier for kids to get a feel for pedaling. This bike has been barely ever used - you can see the nubs still on the tires - as my little one quickly outgrew it over the winter before he was able to use really it in warmer weather.
