Description
This Toshiba stereo system is much of a mystery. (It is entirely unknown to the experts I consulted and I couldn't find anything like it online.) Most likely it was purchased in Japan in the 1970s and made for the Japanese market because all of the labels on the components are in Japanese. It was owned by an officer in the US Navy and his wife, now deceased. The husband was somewhat of an audiophile, though this system appears to have been made for the mass market. It includes two large speakers, a receiver, a turntable, and a couple of small boxes of needles for the turntable arm. It is untested and for sale as is. I did not take it apart to see the insides, nor do I know anything about its technical aspects. The "rubber?" turntable mat is partially melted, though the other parts appear to be in decent shape externally. The large speakers, even with some scratches and chips on the painted wood finish, are quite handsome. The black and gold fabric is definitely "retro." One of the two pairs of legs on each speaker slides out. (You have to see this to appreciate it!) Even if used only as pieces of furniture, this system would make an interesting conversation piece and addition to a period decor. I'm asking $195, but will consider all reasonable offers.
