The four-ply birch inner core provides focused attack and the two-ply mahogany outer veneers add enveloping warmth. Together, these tonewoods achieve a studio-ready balance of power and depth. Pearl's 60-degree bearing edges, cut into the inner and outer veneers of each shell, increase contact between the drumhead and shell. This design enhances articulation and focus while boosting volume. The sharp inner edge also helps vent air pressure from inside the shell, producing a throaty, resonant tone with substantial low end. Triple-flanged 2.3 mm steel SuperHoop II rims provide rigid drumhead support. Their sturdy yet streamlined design helps the drum hold tune even under demanding playing conditions. SuperHoop IIs mount to the shells using Pearl's OptiMount suspension system which attaches at multiple points around the circumference of each drum.
