Heat treating is a process that involves exposing gemstones to high temperatures to change their color, clarity, and sometimes durability. It's a common practice in the gemstone industry, and is used on many types of gemstones, including: • Rubies • Sapphires • Amethysts • Citrine • Tanzanite • Aquamarine • Tourmaline • Topaz • Morganite  Heat treating can lighten, darken, deepen, or completely change a gemstone's color. It can also eliminate or create inclusions. The process requires a great deal of skill and precision, and an understanding of the gemstone's chemical makeup.  Heat treating is considered an acceptable practice because it recreates a natural process and doesn't use outside chemicals.  Some people even view it as an extension of the gemstone's formation, as the earth could have applied the heat before mining.  The change caused by heat treating is usually permanent. However, some treatments are not permanent, and others are unscrupulous attempts to misrepresent lower grade gemstones.  Pickup by Appointment Only Pickup Location is near Santa Fe (85)/Dartmouth - Extra Space Storage Facility.
