This is a live edge slab from a burl of black walnut that has been made into a coffee table. The wood came from a tree in the north bay and had been air drying for many many years. The holes and voids were filled with epoxy resin. Then after sanding it down, a skim coat of resin was added to seal the wood. Finally a second coat (flood coat) of resin was poured on, to give the top surface that high gloss, glass-like finish. It has great coloring and details in the grain that can be seen in different angles depending on the light.
