I bought a 97 GT for my 15 1/2 son and he get his driver’s permit this Wednesday. The GT sat for years gear oil turned into past grandson drove the car and burned out the gears (3:08). Has 4RW70 and I put 3:31 gears to give it a nice pick up. The 3:31 with the 4RW70 picks up too fast for my son’s first car. So I installed 3:15 to slow it down. I left the pinion shim which is .030 and just set the backlash to .010 that’s where I had it. Gears and bearing have about 1500 miles receipt attached to prove it. All bearings, Carrie shims. New crush sleeve and nut.
