Description
•Authentic vintage 1939 Nelson McCoy Pottery "Ball" style cookie jar with its original matching lid. This piece dates back to the 1930s and features a classic rounded shape, side handles, and a finned lid. •Pre-owned •Overall, the cookie jar is in great vintage shape with no major cracks. It features a charming hand-painted floral motif. •Please note that because it is cold-painted (applied over the glaze), there is typical vintage paint wear and fading to the colorful accents and the dark band around the top rim. This is consistent with its age, giving it a perfect rustic look. •Authenticity: •The incised mark on the bottom confirms that this is a genuine piece of vintage McCoy Pottery. •The faint, hand-carved, wavy signature near the top rim of the base reads "McCoy", which is a classic authentic mark for this specific 1930s "Ball" cookie jar mold. The three white, unglazed dots arranged in a triangle are stilt marks from when the piece sat in the kiln during firing. •McCoy used numbers to signify fluid capacity or dimensions on their functional kitchen wares. While McCoy is famous for block lettering, their early 1930s-1940s cold-painted utilitarian pieces frequently bypassed standard corporate stamps, utilizing simple size numerals scratched into the wet clay by individual factory workers before the piece went into the kiln. •Nelson McCoy introduced this exact #7 "Ball" mold in 1939. •McCoy manufactured and sold this exact model from 1939 through 1944 before retiring the mold during World War II. •Late 1930s Art Deco •Style- Shabby Chic, Cottagecore, Primitive Farmhouse •Dimensions: •Height- Approximately 8” (From the base to the finned lid) •Opening Diameter- Approximately 5”
