Description
This exceptional hand-carved rustic Western armchair originates from a Montana family ranch home and dates to the mid-20th century (circa 1940s–1970s). The chair remained in private family ownership for decades before being relocated to Southern California approximately forty years ago. Crafted entirely from solid native wood, likely Western red cedar or Rocky Mountain juniper, the chair features a thick single-slab backrest carved in high relief with an eagle in flight — a powerful and iconic symbol of the American West. The seat is formed from a solid slab with natural edges and organic contours, while the arms, legs, and stretchers are fashioned from naturally shaped branch wood. Traditional dowel and pinned joinery is used throughout, and visible hand-tool marks confirm artisan craftsmanship rather than factory production. The chair displays natural age-related checking and a rich patina consistent with authentic Montana lodge and ranch furniture. Structurally sound and unaltered, this piece represents functional folk sculpture and would be well suited for a mountain lodge, Western art collection, or refined rustic interior. Measurements: Height of chair is 36 inches. Seat is 17 inches high, by 19 inches wide, by 17 inches deep.
