Shortly after Hart, Schaffer, & Marx closed their offices in Chicago I went to a warehouse sale and bought a number of framed pieces of Ad Art by Edward Penfield. The backs were marked with the offices they came from. These were hanging in the president’s office so I believe they were original art from specific campaigns. This piece was of New Orleans in the early 1900’s. Pennfield was one of the early ad art artists and a lot of his work could have been seen on magazine covers such as Saturday Evening Post or Harper’s Bazaar. I will be listing 2 others…one more of New Orleans and one of a civil war scene. All were from Hart, Schaffner, & Marx . Penfield was a house artist for them.
