Description

Hand Knotted Fine Wool And Silk vintage Persian Rug Tapestry The Carpet Merchant By Jean-Leon Gerome. The Carpet Merchant is one of the masterpiecs painted by Jean-Léon Gérôme in 1887. It depicts the Court of the Rug Market in Cairo, which Gérôme had visited in 1885. Measures 35' 1/2 height, including the fringes. 29' 1/2 height, not measuring the fringes and 39' width. It has approximately a 20/20 knot count at 400 KPSI. It could take a skilled weaver anywhere from several months to over a year to hand-make a carpet with 400 knots per square inch (KPSI), depending on the size of the rug and the weaver's speed and experience. This truly is an exquisite piece of art for your wall. The rug was originally nailed to a frame (as pictured in the 2nd pic), so some of the nail holes show on the outer corners in the back. The fringes are in good condition.
