Introduced by the U.S. Mint in 1979, it was the first year of production for this smaller-sized dollar coin, which was intended to replace the larger Eisenhower dollar. Despite its introduction, the coin was not widely accepted by the public due to its similarity in size and appearance to the quarter, leading to its discontinuation after 1981. The coin features a portrait of Susan B. Anthony, a prominent figure in the women's suffrage movement, on the obverse (front) and an eagle landing on the moon on the reverse (back). 1979-D Susan B. Anthony dollars in circulated condition are generally worth face value, but uncirculated examples can be worth more.
