This cedar chest has been in the family for years, but nobody remembers when it was purchased. It’s been well used and shows it, but I do believe all the parts are original Except the casters… the originals deteriorated years ago. I think you can see the condition from the pictures, but I haven’t really wanted to do anything to repair the cosmetic problems because I was afraid someone else might consider that defacing an original. The chest is finished in shellac, not oil-based or newer polyurethane varnishes. Side note, I used shellac on a couple of other projects before and it was really cool! You can just use alcohol for a thinner so there’s no horrible or toxic odor. It was kinda cool to use a really old fashioned product that looks so good and natural. The label is intact as you can see. It quotes the 1915 and 1917 studies showing cedar wood is effective blocking the growth of insects. Fun info! The chest is about 6 ft long and obviously can’t be shipped. I will deliver or meet anywhere within the Greenville, SC metro area at no charge. I hope you would enjoy having this lovely old chest.
