Rare Retired Vintage Michael Michaud Boxwood Collection Silver Seasons Brooch The piece pictured that you will receive is cast in hand patinated bronze with polished carnelian stone beads. Has the Michael Michaud Silver Seasons Hallmark on the back of the brooch. Beautiful piece with no breaks, repairs or missing stones. The pin works perfectly and holds securely. Measures approximately 2 1/4” long by 1 3/4” wide. Hallmarked on back of brooch with the Michael Michaud Silver Seasons hallmark. I reached out to the US Michael Michaud team and they confirmed that this piece is in fact this is part of the retired Boxwood Collection that was originally made of Carnelian beads. The new / current Boxwood collection is now made with pearls. About the artist & his jewelry Michael Michaud creates his highly detailed botanical jewelry by using real leaves, stems, and flowers instead of traditional hand-carved wax. He encases these natural elements in a mold and heats them so the plant matter burns away, leaving behind a highly accurate cavity used for casting. The jewelry is then brought to life through a refined, step-by-step process: Direct Casting: Michaud uses a specialized variation of the lost-wax casting technique. Molten bronze—and sometimes, sterling silver or gold plate—is poured into the precisely detailed molds. Hand-Applied Patinas: To replicate the natural colors and lifelike quality of real plants, artisans apply soft patinas to the cast metals. Embellishments: The pieces made by Michael Michaud are frequently accented with delicate natural elements like freshwater pearls, beads, and semi-precious stones. Information on the Boxwood used: Boxwood is an attractive evergreen that can reach heights of thirty or more feet. The slow growing dwarf variety is close clipped (a custom that began in Roman times) to make decorative edgings. Our original model was made from cuttings taken at George Washington's Mount Vernon. The style has been licensed by George Washington's Mount Vernon Ladies Association and a portion of the sales of this design goes to their support.
