Overall very poor customer service and business practices at this dealership.

I found a listing for a vehicle on a 3rd party site, and spoke to a sales rep about it.  I live 5 hours away from this dealership, so *after completing financing onboarding and taking a hard inquiry* on last Monday afternoon, I assumed everything was fine, agreed to bring the specified down payment, and made arrangements to have my brother take off work and drive me up there the following Saturday morning to finalize everything.  I paid him the lost wages as he doesn’t have paid time off.  No big deal, as he’s doing me a big favor, because it’s that or fly.  I *stressed* this point to the sales rep very clearly, and let him know that if there was any issue, to please call me and let me know.   Fast forward to Friday morning.  I call the dealership to just double check everything was alright and some random answers and tells me there is a hold on the car.  I say no problem, it’s probably held for me since I’m driving 5 hours to buy it tomorrow (Saturday).  He says Weeeellll Jamal (main sales rep I had arranged the purchase with)  isn’t here until around lunch so let me find out for sure.  I say okay no problem.  I hang up with him and message Jamal and tell him the rundown of that conversation, he messages back saying he’s on his way into the office and will call me when he gets there, then I thank him and wait.  I wait for 2 hours and call back.  The same random guy, probably another sales rep, tells me Jamal took a personal day, the car is on hold for another customer to come buy it on Saturday, and he can let me know if they don’t buy it.

So so so many problems here.

I tell him I had made irreversible arrangements, taken a hit on my credit and arranged financing (THROUGH THIS DEALERSHIP) and paid good money to come purchase that car, as well as the fact that even if this person didn’t buy, I couldn’t just come the next day, it’s 9.5 hours round trip.

He then tries to sell me different models from the same maker, and I tell him that I wanted the car I arranged for and thank him for his time.

So here is what I find insulting and ridiculous.  They allow me to inconvenience myself to do business with them, only to tell me the car is held for another customer.  Okay, then why wasn’t it held for me when I initiated the purchase process?  I would have been glad to put up the down payment electronically as a deposit until I got there.  They never suggested that I needed to do that, or that they wanted me to.  Not only that, they weren’t even going to call me and tell me before I left to drive up there to Indianapolis, again, a NINE AND HALF HOUR ROUND TRIP.  Clearly they were going to let me come up there, and had the customer bought the car already, they were going to try to push some other car on me as a consolation prize, thereby wasting my time and money.  Finally, they didn’t even have the decency to return my call once I had busted them out, because they knew what they’d done.

I was born in the day, but not yesterday.

So to cap off a long story, I found another vehicle, a beautiful Cadillac STS, 2019, low mileage at a dealership only ONE hour from me, and got it about 7k below KBB.  My money spends just fine elsewhere, as should anyone else’s who sees this.  This dealership and these “sales reps” are a joke, to put it nicely.  If they’d treat a potential customer like this, imagine how they treat actual customers.
