Description

Very old tiger maple wood full size violin . I showed the violin to Mr. Christopher Reunning in Brookline, MA, an expert in appraising and authenticating old and antique violins. He identified it as a German violin crafted around 1910, renowned for its exceptional quality of maple wood which enhances its outstanding voice and tonal qualities. Unfortunately, the label didn't survive, possibly due to inadequate storage conditions or other unknown reasons. The violin holds a rich legacy as the cherished possession of Mr. Walter Alfred Schluze, a distinguished violinist and collector during the 1930s. Hailing from a family deeply rooted in music, all members were esteemed professionals. His brother Raymond, for instance, performed as a violinist with the Boston Pops before assuming the role of principal second violinist with the New Orleans Symphony—an illustrious career trajectory that highlights their musical prowess and dedication. Walter Schluze had the privilege of studying under two esteemed teachers noted in music books. His first teacher, Emanuel Ondricek, and his second teacher, Martin Loeffler, a renowned composer and violinist featured in "Famous Violinists" by Lahee, played significant roles in shaping his musical career. Walter himself served as the first violinist with the R.I. Philharmonic for an impressive 42 years. Additionally, he contributed his talents to the opera house for 12 years and participated in traveling operas visiting Providence. His versatility extended to playing in orchestras for ice shows and the famous Warwick Tent in Warwick, RI. Notably, Walter booked prominent artists like Liberace, Engelbert, Tom Jones, and Humperdink for summer shows, showcasing his influence and impact in the local music scene. Mr. Walter Alfred Schluze passed down this violin to his daughter, who herself was a professional violinist. She played and cherished the instrument, using it in performances with the R.I. Philharmonic and various concerts over many years. Today, Gladys, now 97 years old, holds dear the memories and musical legacy carried by this remarkable violin. Well-maintained, playable violin with a deep and rich sound, requiring no additional work. Kept in a pet-free, smoke-free environment and stored correctly. Includes original case (shown in video and pictures) and bow.
