UNBELIEVABLE HISTORICAL ARTIFACT FROM THE 1790s!! 230 YEAR OLD, KING GEORGE III ERA, HAND CARVED DECLARATION MIRROR WITH THE FIRST RENDITION OF THE AMERICAN EAGLE!!! Obviously, this mirror is not being sold for two dollars. I’m asking $3500 for this amazing piece. It’s just that this app doesn’t allow you to mail or ship anything that’s over $2000 This is an astounding King George III era, Early American declaration mirror from the late 1700’s!! It’s dated at over 230 years old, from the 1790’s!! It’s made of mahogany. So it’s a lightweight wood, easy to hang. Already had a metal wire on the back of it. The mirror glass has been replaced sometime and it’s life. So the glass itself is not original. But the rest of it is. All of the patterns and designs of this mirror are all hand carved. Even the sides of the mirror that look like heads of grain, those are solid hand-carved mahogany as well. There are several main points to this mirror that prove that it’s not from the 1800s, but actually the late 1700s. One of the main confirmations of this is the two flowery fixtures, standing out an inch in front of the mirror and hanging just below the federal at the top of the mirror. These were not even glued in. But they were put in by the tiniest nails that you can imagine. Each nail head is almost the size of a staple. This was not a fixture anywhere used in the 1800s. But only in early American 1700s. Another convincing feature of this mirror that it is from the 1700s is the eagle at the top of the mirror: The strange looking eagle that you see at the top of this mirror was actually the first official image of our national animal. It looks a lot different from the eagle that we currently know as the American Eagle. This version that is placed at the top of this mirror was the very first official symbol of our eagle. You will see this image of this same funny looking pose from the eagle on the very very early US coins from the 1700s. Here is the history of the American Eagle. It describes why the very first American eagle which is at the top of this mirror that I have, looks much different than the eagle we know today: In 1776, the Continental Congress appointed a committee to design an official seal for the country to accompany its newly minted flag. Finally, in 1782, a design was accepted. Its main feature was an eagle, the ancient symbol of Jupiter, king of the gods, and, therefore, a symbol of ultimate authority. However, as is characteristic of most early depictions of the American eagle, this rendering is of an immature, somewhat gawky animal with a small wingspan. Years later, In 1810, an artist by the name of William Rush was commissioned to design a new, more formidable version of the American Eagle. This more powerful statement of a stronger and more fierce looking eagle is the iconic image of the American Eagle that we know today. Today, the eagle remains one of the most prevalent symbols of the nation. From its genesis as a puny looking bird with a small wingspan, it has evolved into the magnificent form that graces the Seal of the United States today. The mirror glass itself, just the glass is 29 x 19 3/4 The entire frame of the mirror is 32 inches wide at the widest point at the very top And 59 inches tall from the very bottom of the mirror to the very top of the Eagles beak There are several large federal mirrors like this selling online. But there’s only one other mirror selling online that’s almost identical to this. Almost identical, but not quite. It has the same shape to it, the same eagle and the same little floral design designs hanging down from the top of the federal. That person is asking $4,800 for their mirror.
