Description

This is a kalimba, also known as a thumb piano. It is a traditional African musical instrument consisting of a wooden board with attached metal tines that are plucked with the thumbs to produce sound. The one in the image appears to have a gourd-like resonator, which enhances the sound. This particular kalimba is made from gourd in Africa. It was brought back to me as a gift years ago. It is still in tune and has been mostly decoration.
