Description
The Wheary Trunk Company was founded by master trunk designer George H. Wheary who started out as a designer for the Hartmann Trunk Company around 1902. He was the patentee of the Hartmann wardrobe trunks and later became superintendent and then factory manager for Hartmann before heading out under his own name. By the time the 1930's rolled around, the Wheary Trunk Company was a major player in the industry. They would later change their name to Wheary Luggage Company and become a division of Hartmann Luggage. This particular trunk was made right around 1930 and was known as a steamer wardrobe given it had the size of the true steamer trunks and the inside functionality of a wardrobe trunk. It is well built and measures 30"L X 41.5"H X 30W"(deep) when standing up normally or 41.5"L X 30"H X 30"W when laid down such as for a coffee table. All hardware is original and it includes working keys which opens the exterior lock and the interior lock. The exterior has nice "old" faded black paint. Some part of the surface shows some cyan-blue (which might be the original color). There are some scuffing from normal use. Opens, shuts, and locks perfectly and just a good solid trunk.
