Description

#Set of Hand Crafted Dragon Carved RoseWood Armchairs, China, Early 20th Century. #Since the rosewood tree has been treated as a precious wood since ancient times, it was an expensive wood that was difficult to use except for kings and emperors of each country. In addition to Brazil, it still grows in Yunnan Province in China and some parts of Southeast Asia. The wood is dense and hard, and it is as heavy as metal. As mentioned above, it is difficult to process, but it has been considered the best furniture material since ancient times because of its beautiful red color, wood grain, and durability. Even in modern China, it is said that outsiders are prohibited from entering places where rosewood furniture is made for fear that the carving techniques may leak out. Since it is so expensive and is currently classified as an endangered species due to excessive logging, the quantity is not large, so it is very difficult to see original rosewood furniture. #This armchair was made with the highest quality rosewood by Chinese craftsmen in the early 20th century, and its value is incomparable to the redwood, cherrywood, or cheap rosewood that are produced today as replacements for the original top-quality rosewood. This chair, which was carved and assembled in the traditional way by Chinese craftsmen in the early 20th century, is also difficult to find these days. The carving and production methods are also very different from those of today. The dragon carving is also very elaborate and beautiful, as if it were made of lace. #In reality, it is a slightly darker red than in the photo, and if you look closely, you can see golden thread-like lines between the wood grain. This tells you that it is a very rare and unique real, very valuable original rosewood. #It's in very good condition and I'd like to keep it, but I'm moving and remodeling it so I'm letting it go. #21” width,/19” depth, /16” seat height, /37.5”total chair height #$250each/ $450 for two chairs
