This is 83% raw unbleached cotton used to make a very long life long mattress . Removable washable raw cotton canvas cover. Something this natural with this much real cotton would go for a few $$$. A Very experienced company made this durable mattress to my specified King Width with the option to reduce it to a Queen to accommodate our custom platform bed which also was a King width that could reduce to a Queen. We have kept it covered with various pads and protectors most times but we did have a baby burping now and then in our family bed. If you are adventurous, you can remove and wash the canvas cover which I had done with my sofa futon and again with a twin futon which I’m putting back together now and can show you how it’s done. Redoing a futon requires some patience . I don’t feel it’s necessary with this king /queen because we kept it clean and sanitized with a dusting of baking soda now and then. There is a 1 inch layer of urethane foam cushion in the middle to maintain some separation for springiness and airflow . The image shows a portion of the canvas cover where I unzipped it to show the raw cotton fiber with seeds and fiber still mixed in to show the “non factory” process. Made in the USA. Any discoloration is simply occasional humidity or the cotton seeds and cotton skin plant or buds staining the canvas . There is xtra batting to re-stuff the side to extend the mattress back to a King width. At the moment it is a Queen. Natural cotton is beige and not white. The sun does the job of sanitizing as does the natural mineral borate which is standard usage for all mattresses for centuries . Non smoking and no pets in the bedroom .
