Description
This is a Japanese bronze, Usubata vase, used for Ikebana (traditional Japanese flower arranging). The vase is made of bronze and features stylized masks and arrow-shaped designs on the vase portion. Vase with Lid attached is approximately 9.75 Inches Tall .....Top Rim is about 11.75 Inches in diameter The Vase without the top is about 9" tall & diameter of base is around 5.5" Total Weight of Piece is just under 8 Las The vase is made of two pieces: a stand with handles and a removable flat saucer-shaped top piece. The style of the vase, with its intricate details and bronze material, is characteristic of Japanese art from the Meiji period (1(contact info removed)). It has handles on the sides, which are stylized as animal heads. My family bought this vase at Marshall Field's in Chicago in the early 1960s. It still has its original tag from the department store & has a stamp on the base "Japan." It is in excellent condition with some burnishing. The saucer/lid has s slight dent in the side that is hardly visible (see images). The outside has recently been given a natural polish with some olive oil. The interior on the vase has not been polished. This has always been kept in a non smoking home. AD IS CURRENT - THIS IS STILL AVAILABLE. PICK UP MID WILSHIRE 90036.
