Description

1902 Antique Letter SC State Senate (Former Confederate Veteran) James Washington Moore. 1(contact info removed). From Gillisonville, Jasper County SC. Practiced law in Hampton County SC and Gillisononville, SC state house member, 1(contact info removed), member of Sc Senate, 1(contact info removed), graduate of University of GA in 1856. Served as an officer in the Confederate army. Beaufort Artillery, adjunct of calvary of Hampton's Legion, adjunct of 2nd SC Regiment. Letter to Hon. Howard Patterson - Barnwell SC Jan 24 1902 Dear Sir, Your of the 23rd inst is just at hand. I am sorry I could not be at Hampton to aid you on 22nd; but even if I could have left, I am suffering so from a very severe cold, which is their eatening to developing into a case of grippe, that I would not have dared to risk the exposure of the night travel, neccessary to reach Hampton. I have been under the Doctors care ever since I have been back here, and I don't improve to any extent so far. I do not see how I am to be in Charleston on Tuesday even if I am able to travel, as most important measures in the Senate have been set for that day. If I can find I can come through, I will be present. I am glad you have succeeded in blocking them so far. And I am ready to help all I can. Yours truly, James Moore Pick up in James Island near folly beach or shipping is turned on. Comes in a protector sleeve and backing board.
