Description

TLDR - Someone looking for a project could have a strong runner. If you're not interested in a project, stop reading here. ---- This 2006 Nissan Pathfinder V6 with approximately 160,000 miles on it starts, runs, and drives. However, it smokes from the tail pipe which increases with throttle/acceleration. I bought it thinking it was one of the head gaskets and set off to get it running for my mom. I have done the following work to it: Both head gaskets (and all of the accompanying gaskets) Fuel injector o-rings (upper and lower) Knock sensors Camshaft position sensors Timing chains and tensioners Water pump Thermostat VVT solenoids Camshaft phasers Passenger side camshafts Serpentine belt Air filter Oil filter I removed the lower oil pan and scraped out the sludge and cleaned the pickup tube screen. Clean title, not in my name, but with a bill of sale from the last owner. When I purchased the camshaft set, the seller sent me two sets of passenger camshafts and I got impatient and reinstalled the originals before they made a decision to exchange. So the new driver side pair comes with the vehicle. I have a new fuel pump and oil pump that will come with the vehicle. The oil pump requires the upper oil pan to be removed, so I didn't do that while I had it apart. My most educated guess at this point is that the problem is piston rings. I don't have the tools, time, or desire to pull the entire engine to do the rings, and I have a real problem with scope creep when I do these things. I also have no interest in parting it out myself, so please don't ask. Best case scenario is that it's the valve stem seals and won't need bottom-end work. I have not done a compression test to check. The price is firm. Frankly, there is more in new parts listed here than what I'm asking, let alone the time invested into what's already been done. It can probably be driven a short distance as long as you don't mind smoking out the neighborhood. Otherwise, it will need to be towed or trailered.
