Description

All reasonable offers will be considered ✨ My client is selling these RARE, MUSEUM QUALITY preserved set of 2 antique Chinese theatrical/ceremonial robes, richly hand-embroidered in silk and metallic threads. These lined garments are resplendent with symbolic motifs, exceptional craftsmanship, and cultural significance, and they are likely from the late Qing Dynasty to early Republic period (circa 1900–1930). Photos are of the ACTUAL items Each robe features a vibrant red silk ground, traditionally associated with joy, celebration, and good fortune in Chinese culture. Intricate hand embroidery depicting phoenixes, lotus blossoms, ocean wave motifs, and figural narrative scenes likely drawn from Chinese opera or mythology. The interior label “丰年”, meaning “Year of Abundance,” possibly referencing a specific opera production or auspicious wish for harvest and prosperity. Elaborate metallic thread accents and couched embroidery indicative of high-quality theatrical or ceremonial garments used for stage or temple performances. Loose, T-shaped construction with side ties, buttons and lined... typical of traditional Chinese costume forms. These robes are ideal for collectors of Asian textiles, museums, costume historians, or as dramatic statement décor. Rare to find in such vibrant condition and as a matched pair, they present a unique opportunity to acquire a piece of cultural and artistic heritage. Condition is VERY GOOD antique condition with bright colors and intact embroidery. Some minor signs of age or storage are present, consistent with garments of this era. INCLUDED: 2 garments. SIZE: length 36" / armpit to armpit, chest 21.5" / sleeve length 19" ESTIMATED AGE... based on stylistic embroidery, construction, and the interior handwritten characters, these robes are likely from the late Qing Dynasty (c. 1900) to the early Republic of China period (1912–1930s). Theatrical and ceremonial costumes from this era were often produced by skilled embroidery houses for traveling troupes and regional opera performances.
