Description
Antique clock in great condition. Just needs to be balanced to make it chime, once reassembled at your home. Google John Fletcher for more info on these fabulous, valuable clocks. English. Has hand painted pediment. Others adorn stately country homes in England... think Downton Abbey. One is owned by Gawthorpe Hall, Lancashire, in the British National Trust! Carved oak and brass. English renaissance revival style. Deep bonnet surrounded by two ball and spike brass finials. Demilune "landscape with cow" oil painting atop face with the maker's name in banding "John Fletcher (of) Barnsley" Yorkshire UK. Applied ormulo spandrels. Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and day of the month. Full fluted columns with cast Corinthian capitals each side of the hood, vine and floral carving throughout hood, carcass door and base, all resting on bracket feet. Inside, an antique nail attaches a small handwritten card with "Rev Plaxton Langport", likely the man for whom the clock was originally made in England. This clock predates the American Revolution!
