1985 Honda Shadow 1100 cc. I bought the bike as a project bike. I installed new oil filter, new spark plugs, pulled the carburetor and cleaned it, and I'm having an issue that's above my basic understanding of motorcycles. The motorcycle will die when I place it in first gear. Sometimes it's hard to get it to start especially when it's cold. I had a friend come over to help me with the bike who turned out to be a complete idiot, he wanted to hardwire the harness that holds the temperature and fuel gauge so the bike would have less parts. So he clipped the wire harness off. I don't have the time to keep messing with this bike this is a good bike. This is the Honda answer to Harley-Davidson in 1985. Honda called this the Harley killer. If you know much about motorcycle history you will know that the engines are so similar that Harley ended up suing Honda for patent rights. In my opinion this is the only Honda you're making model that could stand up to the classic Harleys. I bought the bike for a thousand and all aftermarket parts and everything I've spent maybe $400. I would just want to break fairly even and get back to a different hobby at this point. All you would have to do to get this bike running I think would be to put the wiring harness for the fuel and temperature gauge back to its connector it's a total of four wires on each and take off the sensor for the kickstand as that is the reason it dies when you put it into first. You might want to buy a new battery but this bike comes with a lot of the maintenance parts oils equipment etc that you will need to maintain it.
