Description
Warm, dry red paint and simple hand-crafted joinery give this piece excellent primitive character. Likely a small candle/utility box that once had a sliding lid (now missing), it has the classic canted (tapered) sides, square-nail construction, and three-board bottom. A faint finger-notch in one bottom board and the groove line along the upper edge are consistent with early slide-lid boxes. Size: 11.75" L × 7.5" W × 10" H Details * Hand-planed pine with square/early nails * Original oxidized red/brown paint with great wear and patina * Canted sides; three-plank bottom * Perfect for display, holding mail/utensils/kindling, or as a rustic planter sleeve Condition * Structurally solid; expected age splits, edge wear, and small losses at the lower front (see photos) * Old surface with scuffs, stains, and paint wear; sliding lid is missing
