For sale is a great pair of 1909 & 1909 V.D.B. Lincoln Wheat Cents. The VDB cent was only made for one year--in 1909, which happens to also be the very first year of the Lincoln Cent. Those two things are what makes the VDB one of the most desired and rare cent of all the Lincolns. The reason it is called the VDB penny is the initials for the designer of the Lincoln cent, Victor D. Brenner, was included on the very bottom of the reverse. In looking you'll see a small "VDB." Critics didn't like his initials so prominently on the coin so the design was changed to remove the initials, which created the other coin in this pair: the 1909 regular. Both coins are semi-key dates of the series, with the VDB being the more scarce of the two. As you can see from the pics the coins are in really nice shape. Both coins are very nice F grades. All images, date, and the all-important VDB initials on the reverse are nice and bold. There are no major flat spots on the fine lines in the wheat ears on the reverse.
