Description
This is a very cool, rare Green Sparkle nesting drum kit that infamous drum builder Nodar Rode custom made for me at his shop in Manhattan in 2004. The sizes are 12x8, 16x16, 20x17. Nodar was the sole proprietor of Manhattan Drum Shop, a virtual museum of restored vintage drums, and also where he invented & built his nesting drums. He is now retired, so these drums are increasingly hard to find. His patented design allows the head of the bass drum and floor tom to be removed without affecting the tuning of the drum or compromising the shell in any way. This way, everything fits inside the bass drum for transport and storage. An entire kit takes up the space of just one bass drum! It’s a super convenient system and an ingenious quick release design that no other drum maker has done. Perfect for a touring or regularly gigging drummer….if you don’t mind other drummers constantly asking about it! I would always put towels in between the drums when I nested them, just to protect the finish, but I didn’t for the sake of these photos so it would be a clearer picture of how they work. Of course, the one drawback is the weight once all the drums are packed away into one, which is why I’m including a heavy duty Humes & Berg case, outfitted with casters, so you can easily roll it rather than carry it. Your back will thank you. The wrap is tight, with no issues or scuffs whatsoever. All the tension rods move freely, and the bearing edges are as perfect as the day I got them. It is outfitted with rock solid Yamaha hardware; the rack tom uses a ball and socket holder/adjuster. Most importantly, this kit sounds AMAZING. Tuning it is almost too easy, and it records exceptionally well. I’ve owned many drums over the years, both vintage and modern, and I’ve never had a kit more versatile than this one. It can, and has, worked with virtually any style of music that involves a traditional drum set. I hate to sell it, but my gigging/touring days are basically behind me, and I would love for a more regularly playing drummer to enjoy them the way I have for all these years. Feel free to reach out with any questions. Thanks for looking!
