Description

Weight: 46 Grams / 1.62 Ounce Size Approx: 3.75 inch x 2.25 inch 0.25 inch Luster: Glassy Hardness: 5 - 6 Specific Gravity: 2.35 - 2.60 Some light passes through material, could be used for window catcher art work. The coloration in mahogany obsidian is thought to come from hematite included in the glass as it cools from volcanoes. Also said that iron impurities cause the reddish / brown color. This leads to the large, rust-colored bands and spots in the stone. You’ll sometimes hear this variety referred to as red obsidian. Volcanic glass - a rock rather than a mineral, it is a mixture of cryptocrystalline grains of silica minerals in a glass-like suspension, a super-cooled liquid. Obsidian is formed in the latest stage of volcanic eruptions, the silica left over after most of the other elements and water have been used up are ejected or flow out and rapidly chilled at surface temperatures. The stone is wet in these photos. This is what the stone will look like after its been tumbled and polished. Showing the stone in this state shows its true potential. I combine on shipping, please check out other minerals I have for sale :) Please refer to photos for size and condition. You’re getting the one pictured here. All items purchased from me come from a smoke free home. This listing is for one stone *Please note, that the color may be a little different due to monitors and lighting effects. I do my best to accurately represent my items with the photos. I show different angles of the stone as well at the stone in different lighting.
