The Armada earns EPA ratings of 13 mpg city, 18 highway, 15 combined with four-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive is only 1 mpg better. Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control, while optional equipment includes blind-spot monitors, active lane control, parking sensors, and a surround-view camera system. The Armada’s bulbous front end works better here than it does on the nearly identical INFINITI QX80, as do the unadorned sides and simple taillights. We like the Armada’s almost retro-style two-tone fender flares that give it a rugged look. We also like the dark chrome on the Platinum Reserve. The power from the 5.6-liter V-8 making 390 horsepower and 394 pound-feet of torque is smooth and awesome. It makes a distinctive growl when worked hard, and the 7-speed automatic transmission always seems to be in the right place at the right time. The 2020 Nissan Armada offers a potent powertrain with a cushy ride and nautical handling. The cabin materials match the luxury of an INFINITI. Fuel economy is low and third-row space is small, but the Armada’s ready for a tug of war—or just to tug a boat or a trailer.
