American silver plate centerpiece tray late 19th century, Flower Decorative Art Sculpture Description American silver plate centerpiece tray by the Meriden Britannia Co. late 19th century The squared American Silverplate Tray, fourth quarter 19th century, by the Meriden Silver Plate Co., Meriden, Connecticut, in the Japonaise taste, of symmetrical form, hand hammered ground, with milled floral gallery and acanthus leaf decoration, the plateau engraved cartouche with koi fish, and other aquatic sea life and foliage. Marked: Meriden Silver Plate Co Quadruple plate: 093 to the underside. Condition report: Overall Condition: Good. Scattered surface scratches and scuffs consistent with age. Engraving good with no losses to silvering noted. Additional Notes: The Meriden Britannia Co. founded in 1852 in Meriden, Connecticut, produced a wide range of silver plate wares including tray’s bearing similarities to the present lot. Refer to 'The Meriden Britannia Silver-Plate Treasury, The Complete Catalog of 1886-7' plates nos. 1041.
