Description

A vintage carved wooden basket with a lid. The decorative carvings depict African animals such as a lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino. It is in nice condition and has a lovely warm wood grain finish to it. The age is unknown but possibly from the late 20th century ca. DimensionsHeight 24cmWidth 37cmDepth 15cm 70 The selected region of the quilt features fabric incorporating Adinkra symbols. Originating from the Bono and Asante people of Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, these traditional stamped symbols represent proverbs, historical events, and cultural concepts. The quilt square in the lower right, with the gold fabric and intricate stitching, depicts the "Gye Nyame" symbol. This specific symbol is widely recognized and translates literally to "except for God," signifying the omnipotence and existence of God. The surrounding squares also use African-inspired prints and a traditional quilting style often associated with African American art quilts
