Description
Powers on- Screen Works - Has original remote, box, and packaging. Untested but was owned by an audiophile who loved his music and was connected to his system. The other items were sold before I could test this amp. He passed, and I need to sell what I call the Beauty and the Beast. It looks great but it is HEAVY. Sold As-Is300 Some notes from other users: Yamaha DSP A-1 Processing Amplifier This model, known as Yamaha’s “10th Anniversary” edition since the introduction of the DSP-1 processor, is a big change from all of its predecessors. The first change, clearly visible, is the size. This beast, completely boxed, weighs over 100 pounds. It succeeds the highly-regarded DSP-A3090 Soundfield Processing Amplifier, the first one to feature Dolby Digital. The Yamaha DSP-A1 would be the last model to be an integrated amplifier. The word “integrated” describes a component with a pre-amplifier and amplifier, but lacks a tuner. The model that would replace the DSP-A1, the RX-V1 processor, would be the first of a series of processors, right up to the current production RX-Z9 which has a tuner and, therefore, the unit is called a receiver. The DSP-A1 features a whopping 110 watts for five channels and 35 watts for the “front effect” speakers. For those of you confused as to what “front effect” speakers are, they are a pair of “surround processing speakers, which are placed high and above the main channel speakers; the main channel speakers produce the natural, unprocessed sound (although you can opt to skip the “front effect” speakers and mix the processed sound through the main) and when that effect is used in conjunction with all the other channels, the results are staggering. This unit also features 42 DSP modes and introduces the DTS (Digital Theater Sound), the other available home theater Digital surround format, in addition to Dolby Digital. It has a “late-night listening” feature, which allows you to hear your Dolby Digital without a blast of volume overtaking the main levels. The amplifier is very clean sounding. Even without the DSP effects, it will provide plenty of distortion-free clean sound to two channels, if that is what you desire. Yamaha did not stop there! They made this unit “obsolete-proof” by adding a decoder for any other type of Digital Processing that might come along (SDDS-Sony Dynamic Digital Sound – the only other movie Digital Surround Processing format?) The only thing I found flimsy on this unit was the remote control: it feels like it is made of tin and the entire unit opens to display plenty of buttons for different functions. It does “glow in the dark,” but I think the remote control units for the previous DSP-A3090 and the replacement model RX-V1 were far superior in terms of durability. By the way, the last production runs of the DSP-A1, called the DSP-A1x came with the same remote control as the Yamaha RX-V1. Manufacturer Notes: Yamaha Natural Sound AV Amplifier DSP-A1 - Gold Comes with the original remote. Specs: This is a flagship Yamaha A/V amplifier that supports DTS as well as Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic. From mono / stereo to Dolby Pro Logic, Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround, all the home sound formats of the day are supported. Also, by using dedicated sound field data for each format, we have achieved sound field effects that take advantage of the characteristics of each format. The processing section, which is in charge of processing sound field programs, is integrated on a single board. This board is equipped with DTS / Dolby Digital digital input terminals and A/D and D/A converters. This board is completely separated from analog signals, including the digital arithmetic section, and realizes high precision and high-quality sound field processing. The Dolby Digital Decoder is equipped with Yamaha's original 24-bit ASIC LSI YSS-249, designed with an emphasis on high-speed and high-precision processing. With 24-bit precision, high-quality Dolby Digital Playback is possible. The Yamaha YSS 214 LSI is used for sound field processing. In addition to DSP functions, the YSS 214 also includes digital equalizer functions such as cinema EQ and center GEQ. The A/D converter uses a 128 times oversampling delta-sigma 24bitA/D converter. An 8 x oversampling delta-sigma 24bitD/A converter is used for all channel D/A converters. A switched capacitor filter and a continuous filter are used for the post-filter, providing excellent jitter resistance and reproducibility of very small signals. The power amplifier section is equipped with an all-discrete 7-channel power amplifier. The front L/R, center, and rear units use power amplifiers of the same power and quality, and all achieve a maximum practical output of 150W. In addition, an amplifier with a maximum practical output of 45Wx2 is used for the Cinema DSP's unique front effect. The power supply section is equipped with a 8.5 kg heavy-weight low-impedance power transformer and a 50 mm diameter x 90 mm high bl
