The vintage Yamahas that were made in Japan are superior to the later Chinese and Taiwan made models. It seems the Japanese factories and workers have a higher standard or something, but the fact that this keyboard dates to when Clinton first won the Presidency and just a couple years after the Berlin Wall fell along with Communism in much of Europe. These vintage keyboards are still in demand by the electronics wizards who can modify the sounds and settings. It seems the older type of music files make that possible, while new full digital can not. Besides those who want to modify it, this keyboard is great for the kids. More compact than the 63 key models it is an easy size to work with on the bed or couch. Headphone jacks let them play and practice in silence to the rest of the house and 100 voices plus 22 rhythms along with harmony and accompaniment let them practice piano lessons PLUS have a lot of fun making music. Either just for fun or truly creating music, these are INFINITELY BETTER FOR YOUR KIDS THAN VIDEO GAMES! It can run on batteries, so can be used anywhere but the power adapter is the way to go when possible as it gets $$ buying 6 D cells at a time. Has the music rest for those who read music or will learn and it includes several pieces in the manual PLUS a book on Scale + Chord for keyboards. EVERY key and function tested but you can try it before you decide.
