Potted black bamboo needs re-potting! Caution - this is a forest-maker of a bamboo species and should NOT be planted in the ground unless you know what you are getting into. Current plastic pot is 16” tall by 22” diameter, and the tallest stalk is probably 10’ tall (incl. pot height). Potted 3 years ago from just scraps of root rhizomes after having a grove professionally removed. All of the growth was from the first year, as it has been wanting more space for a while. Some of the stalks are beginning to turn black, as the change to black takes a couple years. Once black this species provides a stunning contrast of vibrant green leaves against the black. When we had the original grove dug up the stalks were over 17’ tall and ridiculously fast-growing and spreading, where even the professionals were shocked. Will be sad to see it go - beautiful and super strong resilient plant. Snow can bend it over to the ground and once melted it stands straight back up, no damage. But it needs more space than the pot size I can handle…
