- Signed “Joe Hermes 1955” - Original artwork - Oil on Canvas - 23 3/4”h x 24”v - Frame: 28”h x 28 1/4”v - Needs minor repair and touch up to two poorly repaired holes @ 3/4” & 1-3/4” diam. Frame could use rejoining as well… Striking depiction of three spirited colts, each with their own personality, which seem to represent the virtues of: Boldness, Curiosity, and Caution respectively, in reaction to an undepicted third party. This precise composition is rendered with considerable aptitude for proportion, blending, and selection of color. The brush strokes are indicative of a confident and determined hand. This painting, although a prize for any collection, would best suit equestrian as well as agricultural, rural and western interests.
