M101A2 Utility Trailer

A robust and versatile military surplus trailer, the M101A2 is an ideal platform for off-road adventure builds or heavy-duty hauling. Known for its rugged, all-steel construction, it provides a solid foundation for overlanding modifications, camping setups with rooftop tents, or simply serving as a dependable cargo trailer. The M101A2's solid chassis is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts for creating custom off-road trailers. It can be equipped with a rooftop tent, custom racks, water tanks, and other expedition gear. The M101A2 is a single-axle, two-wheeled cargo trailer originally designed to be towed by a 3/4-ton or larger military truck. It is suitable for towing behind most 4x4 trucks and SUVs. · Construction: Features a welded steel box body bolted to a durable articulating (dump feature) steel frame. This M101a2 was built in 1969 by Case Master Inc. · Capacity: 3000 lb. axle upgraded during service to coincide with GM wheels for compatibility with the CUCV series. Will fit a full 4x8’ sheet of plywood between fender wells. Scale weight is 1340 lbs. · Off-road performance: Engineered for use on all types of roads and cross-country terrain, it can handle a wide range of weather conditions. · Braking system: Equipped with a surge brake system that activates when the tow vehicle slows, as well as hand-operated parking brakes. It can be converted to electrical braking using off-the-shelf components. · Electrical system: Converted to a standard 12-volt system with a civilian 4-pin plug. Providing new components to switch over to a 7-pin plug and add amber and red side marker lights. · Tires: Hankook Dynapro AT M LT235/85/R16 tires on original steel 8 lug (8x6.5 - GM) wheels. Off-the-shelf components may be installed to change the hub pattern to other common wheel sizes (5 or 6 lug in various patterns). · Towing: It uses a pintle (included) with a lunette ring hitch system, which is highly durable and flexible for off-road travel. The lunette has been upgraded with the latest military-spec adjustable height system. · Tarp and Frame Bows: The trailer comes with a complete frame and woodland camouflage tarpaulin system to enclose the trailer. · Extras: Extra surge brake parts, including: original fixed drop lunette, surge brake piston, and other small parts. New electrical/lighting components: 7-pin wiring harness, wiring box, steel 6” (powder-coated) oval tail light boxes, LED 6” tail lights, new LED amber and red side marker lights - steel military style, and new front/rear side reflectors. We have used this trailer for dump runs, hauling gravel and mulch, camping, moving, and hauling things from the hardware store (lumber, pavers, etc.). I was going to build a versatile cargo and overland trailer, but I never had the time to complete the project. This is an excellent foundation for an overland project!
