They are in fantastic vintage condition. They are so unique and you will have a work of art AND a functional dining chair in your house! Designed by René Herbst, who was a French furniture designer and architect. He was best remembered for his advocacy of the industrialisation of furniture as a form of modern art. (These chairs are featured at the Modern Museum of Art in NYC (see photo). They first debuted in France in 1929, The Rene Herbst Highback Cord Sandows Chair is just one example of the pioneering use of industrial material for everyday household objects. Made with a nickel-plated steel tube frame and bungee cords stretched taut and fastened to the frame by hooks for both the seat and back rest. (They do not “pinch” you, and they are surprisingly VERY comfortable!)
