Description
The '40 Ford owned by Jack Freyder underwent a complete ground-up rebuild with the help of his friends Jack McKinney, Phil Goschl, and Jon Peters. The project took six years to complete due to Jack's perfectionistic personality and which resulted in his desire for the car to be perfect. During the rebuild, the car was completely disassembled and a basic plan was established. However, as Jack's perfectionism kicked in, the plan was adjusted multiple times to incorporate better ideas. At times, parts that were already assembled had to be disassembled again to implement improvements. Throughout the process, more than 85 individual parts, as well as the entire frame, were powder coated. The body of the car is made of steel and features a 1948 gas filler door. The cowl vent was filled, and the windshield was V-butted for a cleaner look. The drivetrain of the car utilizes a Mustang II front end and parallel leaf rear springs. The braking system consists of power disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear. The steering system is equipped with a power rack & pinion setup attached to a GM tilt column. Under the hood, the car is powered by a completely rebuilt 1977 350 Chevy engine paired with a Turbo 350 transmission. The rear end is an 8' Ford. The fuel system includes a custom 25-gallon stainless steel tank and other custom stainless-steel components, such as a fan shroud. The car was meticulously painted in Frost Beige :'Buckskin', which covers the interior, exterior, and underside. The upholstery work was done by Mike Ambrose using taupe-colored leather and tweed materials. The headliner and carpet are made of dark brown wool. Overall, this '40 Ford is considered a perfect example of a hot rod, and the true appreciation of its quality can only be gained by seeing and driving it firsthand. A collectors dream car.
