Description
OWN A PIECE OF AVIATION / WORLD WAR II / F-4U CORSAIR / and SPITFIRE HISTORY ! By ROBERT STEPHEN SIMON Original board size 20" x 24" Note: I have put no value on the frame. You may have it with or without the frame with no price change. The Spitfire was designed as a short-range, high-performance interceptor aircraft by R. J. Mitchell, chief designer at Supermarine Aviation Works, which operated as a subsidiary of Vickers-Armstrong from 1928. Mitchell pushed the Spitfire's distinctive elliptical wing (designed by B. Shenstone) to have the thinnest possible cross-section, helping give the aircraft a higher top speed than several contemporary fighters, including the Hawker Hurricane. About Robert Stephen Simon: The artist was the nationally acclaimed portrait artist, Robert Stephen Simon, who through many years of hard work and total dedication to his craft had risen to the highest echelons of graphic and commercial art in America and throughout the world before his untimely death. Mr. Simon prided 33 years as one of America's most respected and honored pioneers of Portrait Art and had been selected, by the Biographical Society of Cambridge, England, as one of the "1000 distinguished Americans" for the year 2001.
