Description
Collection of four midcentury modern design chairs designed for indoor or outdoor use. Each chair has a stackable, wrought iron frame that supports a canvas seat cover in blue, green, black, white. There are no markings on the frames, so impossible to accurately date them, but they came from an estate sale. Chairs are in good overall condition with some spots on the canvas and minor surface rust/scratches on the metal frames. There are two slightly different frame types, so dimensions vary a bit: Dimensions: 36 x 29 x 30” and 33 x 32 x 32” HWD The butterfly chair, also known as a BKF chair or Hardoy chair, is a style of chair featuring a metal frame and a large sling hung from the frame's highest points, creating a suspended seat. The Butterfly chair was designed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1938 by the architects Antonio Bonet, Juan Kurchan and Jorge Ferrari Hardoy [es], who were working with Le Corbusier's studio, and who formed the architectural collective Grupo Austral. The chair was developed for an apartment building they designed in Buenos Aires.
