Description
A beautiful mid-century Persian miniature painting with an equally interesting history. I was told this piece was acquired in Iran during the 1960s and that the painting was done on camel bone. I have not independently verified the exact material or artist, so I’m passing that information along as the provenance that came with the piece rather than presenting it as a certainty. The approximately 4" x 10" plaque depicts an elegantly dressed Persian couple in traditional clothing, rendered with incredibly fine hand-painted detail. Look closely at the fabric patterns, jewelry, facial features and tiny decorative elements — there is a remarkable amount of work in a relatively small space. Metallic gold-toned accents add another layer of detail. There also appears to be a small painted artist’s inscription/signature near the bottom, although I have not been able to confidently identify the artist. The style is associated with the long tradition of Persian miniature painting, particularly the finely detailed works produced in Iran during the mid-20th century. Whether displayed on its own or framed, it has a wonderful old-world quality and makes a striking piece of Persian, Middle Eastern or vintage art. Approximately 4" wide x 10" tall. Vintage condition with minor signs of age as pictured. Please review photos closely. Free shipping included.
