Description

This 6" Marine Mechanical Clock was originally sold to the US Navy Department on September 29, 1970. In the 1940's and beyond, Chelsea Clock was the primary supplier of clocks for ships in the U.S. Navy. The case is made of a very durable phenolic resin which was jointly developed by the Navy and Chelsea Clock so the clock would not break or shatter if it fell on the deck of the ship. This clock features 12/24-hour time with black numerals. The dial is marked with "Chelsea Clock Co. Boston U.S. Government" Serial #761175 off of the Newport News (CA 148) Made by the Chelsea Clock Company, this icon has been in the business of telling time for over 100 years, and still remains one of the most well known and respected names in their industry. Founded in 1897, the company continues to manufacture and repair clocks at its corporate headquarters in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
