Description
Japanese antique lotus-shaped bronze incense burner. Year of 753 「阪五番飯泉山峯坚雅」 This exquisite lotus-shaped bronze incense burner embodies centuries of Zen tradition and masterful craftsmanship. Designed in the form of a blooming lotus, it symbolizes purity and transcendence, with gracefully curved petals showcasing the refined artistry of the Tang Dynasty. Engraved with “阪五番飯泉山峯坚雅”, this inscription links the piece to Temple No. 5 – Iizuneyama Shōfuku-ji (Iizune Kannon), a revered temple in the Bandō 33 Kannon pilgrimage route, long known as a sacred site for prayers and devotion. The engraving also includes the year Tenpyō Shōhō 5 (753), a significant era in Japan’s Nara period, coinciding with the time of Jianzhen (Ganjin) Monk’s voyage to Japan, marking the profound influence of Buddhism during that age.
